Just a few days ago, I was out shooting a really cool and unique wedding for a Sri Lankan bride and her American groom. I always love weddings with a cultural twist, and this was no exception.
Sulani and Jason live in New York, so I didn’t get a chance to meet them in person until the day before their wedding, but was happy to find what super nice people they are! Sulani is a Psychologist who does a lot of work with war veterans coming come with PTSD, and Jason is currently in dental school, which is funny to me because I have an unusually large circle of friends and family who are dentists.
Despite an unusually rain day in Arizona, the wedding was awesome and everyone had the right attitude in this day of celebration.
Anyway, the following photos give you a small glimpse of the Sri Lankan culture, and I hope you’ll enjoy!
First, meet the couple!
Sulani and Jason in the lobby at the Arizona Biltmore.
Rewind a bit to the beginning. This is a photo of a decoration on a table that had a lot of traditional Sri Lankan wedding details.
These white knots are a symbol of marriage equality, something that is very important to Sulani. I agree!
I had to get some photos of the traditional Sri Lankan lamp!
This next shot is kind of a joke. Apparently Jason has always been very concerned about PDA and used to cover their faces when kissing in front of his mom and dad! So we had a little fun with that during the cake cutting!
