This weekend I didn’t have a wedding, which was a nice break, and LK my wife was getting sick and tired of being sick and tired as she is in her final trimester of pregnancy! So I decided a trip to the mountains was necessary! LK called it our babymoon, which seemed appropriate.
Here are a few images that I got while we were out. It was an awesome getaway.
This is a chapel in Aspen that I have always meant to photograph. Finally I decided to grab one.
The wildflowers are getting out of control.
Why it’s called “Aspen”
My foot in nature.
Mark, LK and Nixon Babymoon!
Sunset.
I made a new friend.
…or two.
It rained.
LK’s baby bump. Babymoon!
Aspen trees were of course, in full effect
I need to explain this one. I was really inspired by all of the creativity that I witnessed at an art festival that was held in Aspen. I wanted to capture a shot of the Aspen trees creatively. In a way that I’ve never seen. It became my mission. I also wanted it to be a pure photo. No photoshop. So when you look at this, I am sure many will say, “oh that is photoshopped”. No, this is actually right from the camera. I achieved this effect by dragging my shutter and panning my lens vertically to follow the flow of the aspen trunks. I’m ecstatic about the results and can’t wait to print this on water color paper!
And you are not going to believe this. LK and I were driving back on Independance Pass, when I just about gave LK a heart-attack when I saw this guy shuffeling alongside a rock wall, “What is THAT!!! And I fumbled to get my stupid iPhone on and finally I got to the camera+ app and shot a few images. I am still pumped and I think I am going to print one of these as well for Nixon’s nursery!
And another iPhone photo, this is little Penelope who came with us by default as we were dog sitting for some friends. She was a really sweet dog and we miss her already!
Feel free to share these photos if you like them and even better, comments in the comment box below really makes my day!

I LOVE these photos! I really hope they go somewhere in print in a book for Nixon because this is such a special time!! Cute little bear too!
Yeah most definitely. I plan on printing most of these. I’m really proud of some of these shots! The “artsy” shot of the aspen trees is going to look nice printed really large on watercolor paper, with maybe a tan linen matte and brown frame! And the bear will also be printed and framed for Nixon’s nursery room!
Love them! I really like the aspen photo one…there is a guy here in FC that does those kind of shots, but not even as pretty as the one you did!!
There is another guy doing this? Then mine is a fail! Grrr. I need to try harder to be unique!
What an amazing get-away! Your photos are beautiful! I love your hands on LK’s bump…so precious!!! What a special time for your family.
Thanks Gina, but YOU are the master at the maternity photos. We are soooooo pumped about the photos you took of LK when you were here and can’t wait for you to capture the big day!!!
Annie and I escaped to Aspen for our honeymood October 2010…it was an awesome getaway. The aspens were in full effect, weather was great for hiking, biking and the restaurants/hotels were affordable due to being in between the summer and winter tourist season. Your photography is amazing, inspiring, incredible…! I look forward to visiting with you next week Brother!
Yeah Ash! That’s the BEST time to go! Glad you liked the pics and keep me posted which days exactly you’ll be here so I can put it on the calendar!
LOVE the shot of the aspen trees! I wouldn’t mind having that one on my wall!
